San Diego Padres
Woo dominates after Tatis' leadoff HR, leads Mariners to sweep - MLB.com
Bryan Woo stared blankly into the left-field bleachers after his third pitch on Sunday afternoon, an 0-2 sweeper that Fernando Tatis Jr. extended his barrel at to uncork a pull-side homer. It wasn’t exactly a mistake pitch, but if so, it’d be his last.
Because the rest of the way, the Mariners’ blossoming ace – who was pushed up one day explicitly for this higher-stakes matchup – was untouchable.
Padres notes: Searching in left field; Vedder Cup hole; Jackson Merrill, Yu Darvish updates
- RHP Yu Darvish (elbow) is expected to make the trip to Toronto but will not pitch in the Blue Jays series, Shildt said. The 38-year-old threw four innings in a rehab start for Triple-A El Paso on May 14, throwing 51 pitches in the game.
- Merrill’s right hand was wrapped in Sunday’s game because of a blister that popped. He said the blister likely developed from swinging, but is not a hindrance. “It’s just big — annoying,” he said.
Padres know they need to 'just get back to playing our game' - Padres.com
Still, there’s no denying it was a rough weekend. The Padres scored only one run in each of the three games – including a 6-1 loss in Sunday’s finale at Petco Park. They finished the weekend 0-for-21 with runners in scoring position.
“They were better, it’s just that simple,” said Fernando Tatis Jr., who hit a leadoff homer in the finale. “They had the upper hand in this one.”
Texas Longhorns QB Arch Manning hangs out with the San Diego Padres - Longhorns Wire
It is a little ironic that Arch's uncle Eli Manning famously refused to play in San Diego for the Chargers and forced a trade to the New York Giants. It's unknown how big of a Padres fan Arch is, but the access he was granted and the enthusiasm he was greeted with by a major league team shows Manning's growing fame and popularity.
