San Diego Padres
Padres, still pursuing Jarren Duran and Steven Kwan, also pushing for Mason Miller: Sources - The Athletic
As usual, San Diego Padres president of baseball operations A.J. Preller is active on most of the big names available at the trade deadline. In addition to his continued pursuit of outfielders Jarren Duran and Steven Kwan, he is also pushing for Athletics closer Mason Miller, sources briefed on the Padres’ discussions told The Athletic.
Considering the top-heavy state of the Padres farm system, Preller might need to part with elite shortstop prospect Leo De Vries or well-regarded catching prospect Ethan Salas to acquire any of the above players. Indications are, the executive is willing to at least discuss them.
Yu Darvish returns to form as Padres complete sweep of Mets - San Diego Union-Tribune
To the list of things going well for the streaking Padres as they played their final game in July on the last full day before the MLB trade deadline, add Yu Darvish returning to being the pitcher they are counting on to help them into October.
“Looked like the Yu Darvish I’ve been playing behind the last five years,” Jake Cronenworth said. “Just awesome.”
The sage right-hander, who had largely struggled in his first four starts since coming off the injured list earlier this month, was in control from the start Wednesday.
Darvish stands alone with 204 combined wins in Japan, MLB - Padres.com
San Diego completed a comprehensive three-game sweep of the Mets, punctuated by Wednesday’s 5-0 victory – a record-setting win for starter Yu Darvish. It was his 204th career victory between Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan and MLB, breaking a tie with Hiroki Kuroda for the most all-time.
“You’re talking about legends like Hideo Nomo, Hiroki Kuroda,” said Darvish, through interpreter Shingo Horie. “Just to be able to get close to these legends, it means a lot, and I’m very happy about that.”
