Losing interest in the Padres

This is something new that I'm trying out, and I'm calling it "The Comment Section". The idea is pretty simple:
When we have a Section 1904 subscriber that we feel has something interesting to add to the conversation, I will invite them to jump on a podcast with me and explain their side of the story/conversation.
Before the trade deadline, "mensrea" (previously from Twitter and now on Bluesky) took issue with the way that Darren and I talked about San Diego Padres fans that were unhappy with where the team was these days:
hey @section1904.com saying that fans should like this team simply because of the win-loss record is a reductive take. there are so many reasons to like a team. maybe we liked the 2016 team because they played hard and then wore a gold testicle necklace in the locker room

personally i’ve lost interest in this team because preller traded away young bedrock players who i followed for years for a bunch of overpaid mercenaries from other teams

I found that to be a fascinating take. How could a fan of the Padres give up on the team when they're in the best five-year stretch of winning that the franchise has ever known? How could the trades the team keeps making to bring in superstar players be turning some fans off?
So, I invited the man known as "mensie" to jump on a podcast with me so we could discuss it. This is that podcast.
