Padres bats go quiet in 3-2 loss to Dodgers

In what ended up being a rather dull game in front of a pretty lame crowd, the Padres went limp against the Dodgers' pitching and weren't able to catch up after a couple of mistakes made by Randy Vasquez and (debatably) Manny Machado.

The top four spots in the Padres' lineup finished 0-14 with a walk and a sac fly RBI. The only spots in the lineup that didn't go hitless were 5th, 6th and 9th. That's not going to work, and it shouldn't be happening when going against a pitcher who can barely crack 90mph, but far be it for me to figure out how Clayton Kershaw keeps doing what he's doing.

Mike Shildt deserves credit, I think, for going with Wandy Peralta as an opener for Randy Vasquez. The decision appeared to help both of them and put the Padres in a position to win after having to pivot off of Michael King yesterday. They combined to give up 2 runs over 5 innings, which is about as much as anyone could've asked for from them.

Ramón Laureano kicked off the scoring with a 2nd inning HR off the left field foul pole:

In the bottom half of the second, Freddy Fermin appeared to injure himself trying to catch a foul ball, but stayed in the game. He later caught Shohei Ohtani stealing and got the only other hit (besides the Laureano HR) off of Clayton Kershaw.
