NASCAR reveals course for inaugural San Diego race at Naval Base Coronado - The Athletic
NASCAR on Tuesday revealed the layout for next year’s race at Naval Base Coronado, introducing a 16-turn, 3.4-mile course that incorporates parts of the tarmac and road on the active military base across San Diego Bay from the California city’s downtown.
The track length makes it the longest on NASCAR’s 2026 schedule for any of its three national series (Cup, Xfinity and Trucks).

Padres interview bench coach for managerial job; Albert Pujols to meet with club Wednesday - San Diego Union-Tribune
The Padres have interviewed at least one candidate to be their next manager.
Brian Esposito, a member of the major league coaching staff the past three seasons and the bench coach for manager Mike Shildt in 2025, was interviewed Monday.
Esposito is the first known candidate to interview for the position vacated when Mike Shildt retired. The man the team will interview next is far more well-known.
Future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols, one of four major leaguers to hit 700 home runs, will meet with the team Wednesday.
Japanese slugger Kazuma Okamoto to be posted for MLB teams by Yomiuri Giants - The Athletic
Japanese slugger and corner infielder Kazuma Okamoto will be posted for an MLB team to sign this offseason, he and his Yomiuri Giants announced at a news conference on Wednesday.
Okamoto, 29, is an 11-year veteran of Nippon Professional Baseball. A right-handed batter, he has a career slash line of .277/.361/.521 and 248 home runs in the Central League.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout testified Tuesday that a team employee alerted him to possible concerns about drug abuse by its former communications director, Eric Kay, before the 2019 accidental overdose death of Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs in a Texas hotel room.
Trout said he confronted Kay directly, telling him, "You have two boys at home, and you have to get this right."
