In the second half, the game turned on its head when Manuel Mayorga was handed a straight red card for bringing down Ramiro Arciga, who was racing down on goal.

Five minutes later, Tijuana were presented the perfect chance to take the lead for the first time when the resulting free-kick struck the arm of Denzell Garcia in the box, leading to a penalty. Up stepped 17-year-old Gilberto Mora, who calmly chipped his effort down the middle.

San Diego FC’s attack will be full-strength — or close to it — when Minnesota United visits for Monday’s Major League Soccer Western Conference semifinal playoff game at Snapdragon Stadium.

Goal-scorers Hirving “Chucky” Lozano (hamstring) and Anders Dreyer (illness) both returned to the club from their national teams this week and have been training ahead of the key playoff match. Coach Mikey Varas said Thursday that both will be available when the Loons visit.

If this ranking were based purely on ceiling, Salas would be the club’s top prospect, and it wouldn’t be even close. Salas will only be 19 when the season starts, and in a perfect world, he would start the year in High-A to get his offensive game to equal his defense. Success in High-A is about recognizing what a pitcher is attempting to do and not missing the pitch the batter wants.

Double-A is a much harder hitting environment as pitchers can generally command fastballs and land breaking pitches for strikes. To make that type of jump without having offensive success at the level below is extremely rare. Combine that with a back injury that kept him out for nearly all of 2025 and wasn’t ready to be tested in the Arizona Fall League, a lot of things will need to go right for him to reassert himself as a top prospect.

So you’re telling me there’s a chance? Aztecs have narrow path to make CFP - San Diego Union-Tribune
The five highest-ranked conference champions receive automatic bids to the playoff. To qualify, SDSU (8-2, 5-1 Mountain West) needs to close out the regular season with victories over San Jose State (3-7, 2-4) at home and at New Mexico (7-3, 4-2) to earn its first season with double-digit wins since 2021.

The Aztecs would then have to win the Mountain West championship game on Dec. 5. It wouldn’t hurt if their opponent is Hawaii, giving them an opportunity to avenge a 38-6 loss to the Rainbow Warriors earlier this month.
