Salas will only be 19 when the season starts, and in a perfect world, he would start the year in High-A to get his offensive game to equal his defense. Success in High-A is about recognizing what a pitcher is attempting to do and not missing the pitch the batter wants.
Double-A is a much harder hitting environment as pitchers can generally command fastballs and land breaking pitches for strikes. To make that type of jump without having offensive success at the level below is extremely rare. Combine that with a back injury that kept him out for nearly all of 2025 and wasn’t ready to be tested in the Arizona Fall League, a lot of things will need to go right for him to reassert himself as a top prospect.

To qualify, SDSU (8-2, 5-1 Mountain West) needs to close out the regular season with victories over San Jose State (3-7, 2-4) at home and at New Mexico (7-3, 4-2) to earn its first season with double-digit wins since 2021.
The Aztecs would then have to win the Mountain West championship game on Dec. 5. It wouldn’t hurt if their opponent is Hawaii, giving them an opportunity to avenge a 38-6 loss to the Rainbow Warriors earlier this month.
