San Diego mayor begins process to rename street in honor of Peter Seidler - MLB.com
San Diego mayor Todd Gloria announced in a social media post on Wednesday night that he has "started the process" of renaming one of the streets leading to Petco Park "Peter Seidler Way" after the late Padres chairman.
Seidler passed away last November at the age of 63 after battling an illness. The grandson of longtime Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley, Seidler co-founded a successful investment group that eventually purchased the Padres in 2012. In 2020, he became chairman, and within two years, San Diego reached the National League Championship Series for the first time in 24 years.
Padres’ Yu Darvish undergoes UCL repair with internal brace, will miss 2026 season - The Athletic
Darvish did not make his latest season debut until July because of continuing elbow trouble and proceeded to pitch through discomfort all season.
Darvish avoided ligament-replacement surgery, but his recent procedure still carries a projected recovery time of 12 to 15 months for a pitcher who, according to people close to him, has contemplated retirement in the past two years.
Expected Value - Letters to A.J.
There is no credible case to be made that the 2025 Padres maximized the expected value of the on-field decisions they made. 2025 will always be remembered as the season bunts were fetishized and batting titles were prized above winning. The Blue Jays proved they’re not alone in elevating priorities above winning. The two teams strayed from the path in very different ways. The Padres insisting on suboptimal lineup construction and old-timey offensive strategies was a willful act. The Blue Jays blunder was more insidious.
Padres' top offseason priority: shore up the pitching staff - MLB.com
The four names to know are King, Suarez, Dylan Cease and Luis Arraez. King and Cease, as big-name starting pitchers hitting the free-agent market, have often been lumped together. Let’s do so again here. Given the money available to starting pitchers, it seems likely both would decline a qualifying offer, if the Padres were to present one.

Ex-Angels clubbie testifies in Skaggs trial that Eric Kay’s drug use was known within organization - The Athletic
During his testimony, Skaggs lawyer Daniel Dutko played two videos provided by Constanti. One was of Kay swaying and speaking quickly. The other was of him taking a 90-mile-per-hour fastball to the knee, as superstar Albert Pujols egged him on. This was one of various “horseplay” dares in exchange for money, Constanti testified.
The video of Kay taking a fastball off the leg was the first video or photographic evidence of Kay participating in these dares. In the video, Pujols is visible, instructing Kay to “Stand like this. Boom, take it like a man.” The Athletic was unable to reach Pujols for comment Tuesday night.
