Two former Padres find new homes

Mike Shildt and Dylan Cease have moved on to new cities and teams.

Two former Padres find new homes

I don't know if either of these stories is big enough on its own for me to be writing about in the late afternoon the day before Thanksgiving, but I thought both of them together might be.

First up, it's the former manager of the San Diego Padres, Mike Shildt...

You read that right, Mike Shildt retired from the Padres only to sign with the Baltimore Orioles six weeks later to be their "Upper Level Coordinator of Instruction", which I think means he helps coach their double-A and triple-A players.

To be fair, this does seem like a role that will be a lot less physically and mentally taxing than the one that Shildt just walked away from with the Padres. Plus, this is apparently the type of coaching that Shildt was interested in getting back to.

Next up is Dylan Cease. Last time we heard his name, he was turning down the Padres' qualifying offer and hitting the open market.

Turns out, it didn't take long for him to find a new home.

Making an average of $30 million per year through your age 36 season and playing for a team that just won the American League is hard to beat.

The Padres, meanwhile, will likely attempt to fill Cease's spot in the rotation for a lot less money than what Cease will be making in Toronto.
