San Diego State Aztecs

San Diego State opens final season in Mountain West with 81-58 win against Air Force - Sports Illustrated
One of the pleasant early-season surprises for San Diego State has been the play of junior guard BJ Davis, who had another big game off the bench as the Aztecs launched their final go-round in the Mountain West with an 81-58 win against Air Force on Wednesday night.

Davis, who has become SDSU’s leading scorer this season without making any starts, scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second half and added six assists for the Aztecs on a night when starters Miles Byrd and Reese Dixon-Waters were non-factors.

SDSU students push back on proposed fee hike largely funding athletics - FOX 5 San Diego
In a statement, San Diego State University said: “As the costs to support student scholarships, on-campus facilities and student-athlete support have increased, the current IRA fee has made up a smaller and smaller part of the overall athletics budget, dropping from 30% of overall athletic revenue a decade ago to just 13% of athletic revenue currently. To be clear, the IRA will not be used to pay costs or debts associated with Snapdragon Stadium, NIL or revenue-sharing agreements, or for SDSU’s move to the Pac-12 Conference. As the existing fee has not been adjusted since 2009, the proposed adjustment will allow SDSU to safeguard the quality of its athletics and sport-related programs.”

San Diego Padres

Padres finalize coaching staff under new manager Stammen - MLB.com
The Padres finalized the coaching staff for new manager Craig Stammen on Wednesday, with Steven Souza Jr. set to assume the role of hitting coach and Randy Knorr taking over as bench coach.

As expected, pitching coach Ruben Niebla remains on board after he was a finalist for the manager role, which ultimately went to Stammen last month. Niebla has been given a promotion to the title of associate manager, along with his duties as pitching coach.
