Sports in San Diego this weekend
Here's a list of all of the action from the upcoming weekend for San Diego's sports teams.
Darren and I will be back with a new podcast around lunchtime, but I wanted to write something for this morning. It feels like this is the first real good San Diego sports weekend of the year, and I wanted to highlight everything* that is going on for those that might be looking to get out and see some games.
Padres
The San Diego Padres will spend the weekend finishing up their series against the Atlanta Braves, kicked off with a 7-4 Padres win on Opening Day. Go catch a game in person or yell at your local bartender to put the game on the TV.
Friday - Braves at Padres, 6:40pm PT
Saturday - Braves at Padres, 4:15pm PT
Sunday - Braves at Padres, 4:10pm PT
SDFC
This is a big one for San Diego FC. Coming home after their first loss in team history, with Chucky Lozano set to return from his injury, and facing off against a team that plays about 120 miles away...not to mention, SDFC is trying to emulate the success that LAFC have had in southern California.
There's a real good chance that this matchup becomes a long-term rivalry, which means you should definitely be watching what happens in the first match between them. If you can't make it to Snapdragon Stadium, you can watch on AppleTV+.
Saturday - LAFC at San Diego FC, 7:30pm PT

Wave
The San Diego Wave play in Orlando against the Pride in an early season affair. The Wave had yet to lose a game (1-1-0) and the Pride have yet to not-win a game (2-0-0).
The key difference between them is the goal differential. The Wave have scored 4 times and given up 3, for a differential of +1. The Pride have scored 8 times and given up ZERO, for a differential of +8. Either that won't hold or they're going to steamroll the entire league.
Saturday - Wave at Orlando Pride, 9:00am PT (on ESPN)
Sockers
The last game of the regular season for the San Diego Sockers actually has some stakes to it. Even though San Diego has clinched its spot in the playoffs and is #1 in the standings, the Savage trail them by only one point.
The game means even more to the Tacoma Stars, who will need a win to clinch one of the remaining playoff sports.
Sunday - Tacoma Stars at Sockers, 6:05pm PT
Seals
The Seals (8-6) are currently in the middle of a tight race towards the top of the NLL standings. One of the teams chasing them is the Nighthawks (8-7), who they visit on Saturday. There are about five teams within a game of each other, meaning the result of this game is likely to create a big shift in the standings heading into the Seals' final three games of the season.
Saturday - Seals at Rochester Nighthawks, 4:00pm PT
SDSU Aztecs
The basketball season has ended with tournament losses for both San Diego State's men's and women's teams. Football is still months away. However, the Aztecs welcome UNLV to Tony Gwynn Stadium for a baseball series this weekend, with some giveaways to entice you.
Friday - UNLV at SDSU, 6:00pm PT (SDSU koozie giveaway)
Saturday - UNLV at SDSU, 4:00pm PT (SDSU beach towel giveaway)
Sunday - UNLV at SDSU, 12:00pm PT (Baseball card set giveaway)
*I understand that this is not everything. There are high school games and other college sports and probably some lower-level events happening around that I will undoubtedly miss. If you want me to start including those teams/functions, let me know in the comments below. If not, I'll likely keep it to the teams above.
